Our MR1 Monocouche One Coat Render excels in modern exterior finishes. Engineered to meet the exacting standards of specifiers, architects, and contractors, MR1 is a testament to our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.
As a through-coloured render system, it effortlessly combines aesthetics and performance in a single application and is an asset to modern construction technology. The term “Monocouche” derives from the French for ‘single layer’, reflecting its distinctive one-coat finish and excellent coverage.
This not only saves time and costs but also minimises environmental impact through reduced material usage.
Low-Carbon Render with VOC-Free Formulation
Formulated without volatile organic compounds (VOCs), contributing to healthier indoor and outdoor environments. This environmentally friendly aspect aligns with modern construction’s emphasis on sustainability and human well-being.
Superior Adhesion and Durability
Additionally, MR1 Monocouche Render boasts superior adhesion properties, classed as ≥ 0.2 N/mm2, (FP) B after weathering cycles, ensuring a long-lasting finish that withstands the harshest environmental conditions. Its exceptional durability guards against cracking, ensuring the structure remains protected and visually appealing for years to come.
Breathable Protection
While providing a robust barrier against the elements, MR1 remains breathable, allowing moisture to escape and preventing potential issues such as dampness and mould growth. This breathability complements the render’s durability, enhancing the overall health and longevity of the structure.
Colourfast Excellence
MR1’s through-coloured formulation ensures that the finish retains its vibrancy over time, resisting fading caused by UV exposure. This feature guarantees that the architectural vision endures, maintaining its appearance throughout the life of the building, and with a wide range of colours available, you can achieve the ideal look and finish.
Streamlined Application Process
The one coat application process also dramatically accelerates project timelines. The ease of application, coupled with the ability to achieve a one-pass finish, helps contractors to complete projects efficiently, without compromising on quality.
It has also been designed for a wide range of substrates, including masonry, concrete, and many other common construction materials. This adaptability ensures that MR1 is a versatile solution for diverse architectural projects.
MR1 Monocouche One Coat Render stands as a testament to ecorend’s dedication to innovation and excellence in exterior finishes. Designed for specifiers and contractors seeking the highest standards in both aesthetics and performance, MR1 redefines what is possible in the world of monocouche render systems.

What finishes can be achieved with ecorend MR1?
MR1 is versatile and can achieve multiple finishes, including:
- Scraped finish (most common)
- Roughcast
- Sponge float
- Ashlar block effect
This makes it suitable for a wide range of architectural styles.
Does monocouche render need painting?
No. Monocouche renders like ecorend MR1 are through-coloured, meaning:
- The colour runs throughout the material
- There’s no need for painting or recoating
- Minor surface damage is less noticeable
This makes it a low-maintenance option compared to traditional render materials.
What makes ecorend MR1 Monocouche One Coat Render different from other monocouche renders?
ecorend MR1 stands out due to its combination of:
- Manufactured in the UK using premium quality raw materials, with more than 90% sourced locally
- Market-leading low-carbon monocouche render technology
- Bags are fully recyclable and waterproof, allowing them to be stored outside all-year-round
- Through-coloured one-coat application system suitable for hand and machine application
- High breathability with siloxane-enhanced water repellence (W2 class)
- VOC-free formulation
- BBA certified
Can ecorend MR1 be spray applied?
Yes. MR1 can be applied:
- By spray machine for fast, large-scale application
- By hand trowel for smaller or detailed areas
Spray application is often preferred for speed and consistency.
Which substrates can ecorend MR1 Monocouche One Coat Render be applied to?
ecorend MR1 Monocouche Render can be applied to:
- Concrete
- Clay
- Lightweight block
- Brick
What is the best way to apply render to multiple different substrates, mixed bricks or an old substrate?
When applying the MR1 Monocouche system, firstly apply a 1st coat ecorend K11 Key Coat Base then trowel down with 6mm notch trowel to get 3mm thickness. Lightly embed mesh corner and head beads. Lightly embed fibre reinforcing mesh vertically, top to bottom, into the 1st pass ensuring that the mesh is overlapped minimum 100mm at the mesh joints then add 500 x 500 mm additional fibre mesh reinforcing patches at stress points around windows and door openings etc. Apply a 2nd coat of ecorend K11 Key Coat Base at 2mm, level and lightly key in preparation to receive the finish coat. ecorend MR1 top coat should be applied whilst ecorend K11 Key Coat Base is green. Minimum thickness of the ecorend K11 Key Coat Base should be 5mm.
Can I render over multiple base coats with MR1?
Yes, you can. If finishing with MR1, always ensure the ecorend base coat has been brush keyed or combed, and the ecorend MR1 is applied over the ecorend base coat whilst green.
Can I apply MR1 as a top coat over OCR base coat?
You can, but it’s not best practice. Apply ecorend S10 Bonding Primer followed by a 1st coat ecorend OCR One Coat Base, then trowel down with a 6mm notch trowel to get 3-4 mm thickness. Lightly embed mesh corner and head beads. Lightly embed fibre-reinforcing mesh vertically-top to bottom into the 1st pass ensuring that the mesh is overlapped minimum 100mm at the mesh joints then add 500 x 500 mm additional fibre mesh reinforcing patches at stress points around windows and door openings etc.
Apply a 2nd coat of ecorend OCR One Coat Base at 2-3 mm levelling coat and lightly key in preparation to receive the finish coat. Minimum OCR thickness – 5mm. ecorend MR1 is then applied whilst OCR One Coat Base is green at a minimum thickness of 12mm and scraped back to 10mm, leaving a minimum 15mm total thickness.
Does ecorend MR1 Monocouche One-Coat Render use recyclable packaging?
Yes, ecorend MR1 Monocouche One-Coat Render uses fully-recyclable waterproof packaging. Our bags are also made with up to 30% recycled content, reducing reliance on virgin materials. Unlike plastic‑lined paper bags that often end up in landfill, ecorend packaging supports a circular approach by minimising waste and protecting product integrity throughout storage and transport.
