Key Benefits of Silicone Render
Silicone render systems are formulated with modern silicone polymers and tested to EN 998-1 standards, offering a complete suite of performance advantages:
- Thin application (1.5–3mm) – reduces weight on the substrate and material usage
- Enhanced crack resistance – elastic formulation absorbs thermal and structural movement
- Hydrophobic, water-shedding surface – resists water penetration and reduces surface soiling
- High vapour permeability – allows the substrate to breathe and minimises damp issues
- Low-maintenance, colour-stable finish – UV-resistant pigments for long-term performance
- Extended application window – with SR365 Ultimate Silicone Thin Coat Render, installation is possible from -5°C to +25°C, and rainproof within 2 hours above +5°C
Water Resistance and Vapour Permeability
Silicone render is hydrophobic – its surface repels water, helping rainwater and dirt particles to run off naturally. This self-cleaning effect reduces maintenance and allows façades to retain their finish for longer.
At the same time, silicone render is designed to remain highly vapour-permeable. Microscopic pores allow water vapour to diffuse, protecting the substrate from trapped moisture and reducing the risk of damp. In contrast, dense traditional cementitious renders can trap moisture within the building fabric, increasing the risk of structural degradation over time.
All-Weather Application with SR365
While silicone render is typically applied in temperatures above 5°C, the ecorend SR365 Ultimate Silicone Thin Coat Render System is uniquely engineered for year-round performance.
Application from -5°C to +25°C
Rainproof in 2 hours at temperatures above +5°C
European patented hybrid silicone chemistry for proven results in adverse conditions
SR365 provides contractors with the confidence to maintain programmes and minimise weather-related delays, even through colder months.
Is Silicone Render Waterproof?
Silicone render is not designed for immersion but is significantly more water-resistant than cement or lime alternatives. Its hydrophobic surface prevents water ingress while allowing vapour to pass through, delivering superior protection without compromising breathability. For moisture-prone zones such as swimming pool surrounds, retaining walls, below DPC and garden planters, the ecorend QR1 Quartz Render System is the recommended specification.
Sustainability and UK Manufacturing
All ecorend silicone systems are manufactured in the UK at our Dalton facility and are supported by our Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility (CESR) strategy.
- Low-carbon manufacturing powered by renewable energy
- Sustainable distribution to minimise transportation impact
- Low-carbon product formulations to support more responsible building practices
Every system is developed under ISO 14001 environmental management and undergoes rigorous testing to ensure long-term performance, durability, and compliance.
