- Extended or failed curing – lower temperatures and high humidity slow hydration, sometimes preventing curing altogether.
- Wash-off and surface slippage – damp or frozen substrates, or uncured base coats, can cause render layers to fail.
- Adverse weather impacts – rainfall, hail, or frost can damage uncured surfaces.
- Reduced daylight – limited hours make multi-pass systems, such as monocouche scratch or dash, harder to complete.

Winter Application Tips
Working in the winter isn’t just about choosing the correct materials. Preparation and process control make all the difference:
- Ensure the substrate isn’t frozen before you begin.
- Check weather forecasts to assess if there is a risk of frost within 24 hours. The minimum application temperature is 5°C for all monocouche renders – only ecorend SR365 can be applied in subzero temperatures down to -5°C.
- Don’t apply the top coat until you are confident the base coat and primer are fully cured. Trapped moisture in a base coat can often lead to ‘Wash Off’ of the top coat.
- Store any “wet” render materials in above-zero temperatures and only pre-load and prep the site immediately before applying the products to protect them from harsh weather conditions.
